SOCA Corvette Weekend
The SOCA Corvette Weekend starts again July 14-16, 2017. See site for details…
Our 26th Corvette Weekend is in the books… and what a Weekend it was!
Beginning on Friday July 10th, SOCA played host to 285 Corvette folks from California, Oregon, Washington and British Columbia, Canada. They came in 145 Corvettes in every generation from C1 to C7 and everything in between.
The day started with Registration and then a Free Car Wash,
provided by a great bunch of Worker Bees led by David Allen.
Though he kept insisting it was free, the folks that benefitted thought it was worth enough, that they donated a total of $500.00. All of which, went to benefit our charity, Candlelighters For Children With Cancer.
We then had the traditional Blindfold Golf Cart Race, Dinner and then a great presentation by Dave Siddon, executive director of Wildlife Images. He brought along a number of his furry and feathered “ambassadors”, including a Wolf, Owl, and “Defiance” an American Bald Eagle.
Saturday was the big SOCA Corvette Weekend Car Show at Riverside Park.
For the opening Ceremonies the Rogue Valley Young Marines presented Our Nation’s Colors,
and then, Jackie Hansen of Lakeport, CA sang the National Anthem.
After a great lunch of B-B-Q Tri-Tip and Chicken provided by Cartwright’s Valley Meats, we held the Funkhana, a just for fun, driving event, that was probably as much fun for the spectators as for the drivers.
It was then off on an optional scenic drive through the Beautiful Applegate Valley, and then on to the Hellgate Jet Boats for the Dinner Cruise. Lots of Spins, Water and amazing scenery on the way to the Hellgate Canyon, and then a stop at the OK Corral for a B-B-Q Rib dinner. After the Jet Boats, for those that still had the energy, it was time for some easy listening and dancing to the Colonel Mustard Band.
Sunday morning started out with breakfast and then the awards. We presented 39 plaques and trophies topped off with the Best In Show that went to Randy Lew from Wilsonville, OR representing Mount Hood Corvettes, and his beautifully painted 2002 Convertible.
The coveted Candlelighters Kids Choice Trophy was then presented to Jackie Hansen of Corvettes Of Lake County.
This was the car the Kids themselves picked on Saturday, as the one car on the whole show field that they liked the best.
We then did some more Raffles, an auction, and the 50/50 drawing. It was then time to present the “Big Check”.
Because of the incredible generosity and loving, caring hearts of all those attending, we were able to give the
Candlelighter Kids a check for just over $16,000…
a new all time record for SOCA Corvette Weekend.
